drink it: spiked lavender lemonade

My motto right now: If it's in season, it should probably be in a drink. Case in point, lavender. As I'm writing this post, I'm sipping on the drink and loving every minute of it. What I really like about this lemonade though is that one, it's super fresh, and two, it's not boring. It's the epitome of refreshing. I kinda want to smack my lips and say "ahhhh" after every sip.

Ingredients for one:
1/3 cup lavender simple syrup*
1/3 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 shot vodka
lemon slice and lavender sprigs for garnish

Run a lemon slice around the rim of a highball glass to wet it, then dip the rim into a plate of sugar. Now you have a pretty sugared rim for your drink! Fill the glass with ice and pour in syrup, lemon juice, vodka. Stir it up and add garnish.

*Lavender simple syrup sounds soooo schmancy, but it's so easy to make. In a sauce pan throw in 3 tablespoons of dry or fresh lavender and a cup of water. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and add a cup of sugar. Let the mixture cool to room temp, stirring occasionally. Pour the syrup through a fine strainer to remove all the lavender pieces. If you want a stronger flavor (like I did) crush the lavender at the end of the straining to extract more lavender flavor. This makes such a pretty purple syrup, and can be stored in the refrigerator.
